Festivals
Bankfest is a brand new festival for the charity The Bank of Dreams and Nightmares in Bridport, Dorset which took place in October 2024. I created and curated the event which saw pupils from three local, secondary schools have the opportunity to listen to and work with ten writers over three days. In 2019 I curated the hugely successful TEDx Sherborne, and prior to that I founded and ran a festival of good writing for Sherborne’s three secondary schools for over five years. With this experience and a diverse network of writers, of both fiction and non-fiction, well-known and emerging, I can help people or organisations curate, programme and source the perfect contributors for their festival.
My unique offer is three-fold: bold, imaginative curation; a focus on good writing in its many forms from songs to speeches; and a deep engagement with young people in their schools and communities.
Workshops
I can create and facilitate writing workshops for a range of contexts. I can design bespoke creative writing events and courses or teach groups who may want to engage with writing which they find challenging. A recent book club project involved a mix of teaching, discussion, and creative writing in response to the unlikely but punchy combination of Elizabethan sonnets and contemporary European autofiction.
Tutoring
I help young people in Key Stages 3, 4 and 5. Whether they are struggling, wanting to be challenged or are determined to achieve a 9/an A* or to get to grips with their dissertation, I can provide tailored support. I can also help to get Personal Statements into shape for UCAS applications. I have an excellent reputation for meeting the needs of pupils of all abilities and was recently nominated for a Lifetime Achievement Award in the ‘Tatler Schools Awards’ for 2024.
Summer 2024 results include:
A GCSE pupil who progressed (from being predicted two 7s) to achieving an 8 and a 9.
An A level English Literature pupil who progressed from a D to a B: “You have a truly amazing gift with young people” (feedback from parent)
Schools
I help pupils with all aspects of writing: for exams, for pleasure, and for better mental health. I can also use writing to help re-ignite the creativity and excitement in your school’s staff with stimulating writing workshops that will leave them refreshed and with new ways of thinking about their subject areas.
